The Teamsters Miscellaneous Security Trust Fund is an ERISA
multi-employer Fund. The Fund is a self-insured Fund providing active and retiree medical, life, dental, prescription, long term disability and vision benefits to 25,000 union members plus their dependents. There are 684 subscribing employers participating in the Fund. The Teamsters Miscellaneous Security Trust Fund was established in 1959 and has reserves for future benefits of $67,869,116 as of May 31, 2008. A Board of Trustees made up of an equal number of Union and Employer representatives manages the Fund.
Board of Trustees
is dedicated to being responsive
to the needs of all of the negotiating parties. Since 1990, the Trustees
have, in response to Employers and Local Unions, designed and implemented
new plans that allow the negotiating parties more options in selecting a
benefit package that meets the needs of both the employer and employee.
The Board of Trustees are also proud of the fact that they have kept
contribution rate increases to a minimum over the last eight years and in
fact on some plans, there has not been an increase of rates for eight
consecutive years. This success is due to cost management programs
implemented over the last several years, favorable utilization by the
employees and successful rate negotiations with the contracting HMO's
(Kaiser, Health Net and
PacifiCare) and preferred providers on the
Medical
Reimbursement Plan.
The Administrator for the Teamsters Miscellaneous
Security Trust Fund is Southwest
Administrators. Southwest Administrators
has been administering health and welfare pension funds for 50 years with
offices in Alhambra,
San Diego and
Las Vegas. Southwest
Administrators is a union employer with a collective bargaining agreement
covering all eligible Southwest Administrators employees.
